About Us

McCullough Excavating & Snowplowing INC. is a construction company located in the growing community of Talkeetna, Alaska. The company was created in 2010 and is owned and operated by Sam McCullough.

Sam and his family have a history of working with people and heavy equipment. Sam’s grandfather, George McCullough traveled to the Anchorage area via steamship in 1940 and started an excavation company of his own, constructing well known Campbell Lake in Anchorage and cleared the land for Alaska Raceway Park near Palmer before moving to Talkeetna and building Jubilee Lake and subdivision.

Sam possesses years of experience in the construction industry, as he was raised on his family operated gold mine in the Petersville area just outside of Talkeetna. He then continued his education attending Associated Training Services, a heavy equipment school in Sun Prairie, WI.

During school he focused on operation, safety and maintaining construction equipment; while also learning about the commercial trucking industry and obtaining a Class A CDL. After finishing school, Sam worked construction in various places across the United States.

Realizing he missed living and working in Alaska, Sam returned and began working on the slope driving a 100 ton pump-truck. He worked a schedule so that he is allotted two weeks of free time each month. During this time, he started his own business.

In 2012 a steady increase in business allowed us to hire our first full-time employee and offer snowplowing services during the winter. Sam has been successful in creating an opportunity where he too has full-time employment as an entrepreneur.

In 2016 we purchased a sand and gravel operation. We now offer many types of aggregates which has helped diversify our operation. We maintained the pits employees, bringing our total full-time work force to five.

McCullough Excavating has developed a reputation and is thriving. It has been a very exciting venture. Sam, his wife, Alison and son Bradley would like to thank everyone who has made this dream become a reality.
